A daytime view of the Adelaide Obahn going to Modbury in the eastern suburbs, the trip takes some 10 mins. and is the fastest way to get out that way. The Obahn has been in Adelaide for years and could be slightly improved by being made electric but seeing Adelaide has not got alot of means to power generators and already has to buy electricity for neighbouring state Victoria during peak usage times, it seems out of reach just yet. Wind farms are popping up and I have heard of a plant that will use heat generated below the earth by (volcanic activity?) to power tubines with steam, it sounds dangerous but I have heard it is safe. Floating bouys with built in generators would be a waste of time but solar generators are going on the roofs of a few homes, making solar cells isn’t that clean from information I got off the net. Hydrogen is another option for transport and one better in my opinion is a hydrogen electric hybrid. The Obahn is good and there have been minimal problems with cars trying to go onto the tracks so I don’t see it going anywhere, as a matter of fact I recall there being talk of another Obahn being built to go out to the northern suburbs a few years back but there is a deisel train service that go’s there. I have also heard that the Adelaide train service will be changed over to electric at some stage, a friend who works with the trains said that it costs 1.2 million dollars per week to fuel the train service here.
